www.history.com

The history of anti-war protests in the United States is as old as the country itself. Every war in American history"even the one that spawned the country"generated internal dissent from pacifists who rejected all wars and from citizens who objected to specific military conflicts on moral, religious, political and economic grounds. The following is a brief timeline of anti-war movements dating back to the birth of the republic.

FFS if there is an issue in today's world that is complicated and impossible to put a black and white spin on it's the Israel-Palestine conflict.

1. Hamas terrorism-abhorrent
2. Israel war crimes-abhorrent
3. Palestinians denying Israel's right to exist-abhorrent
4. Israel stealing land in the West Bank-abhorrent
5. Antisemitism being equated with anti-Zionism-abhorrent
6. Islamophobia-abhorrent
7. Taking hostages is wrong
8. Using famine as a weapon of war is wrong

One thing to do is for EVERYONE to stop demonizing opposing positions.

10/7 was horrendous
killing 10's of thousands of children is horrendous

Both extremes are taking advantage of the conflict to push for more extremism.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is both the easiest and most difficult conflict to resolve.

1. Both sides must compromise
2. Israel must be able to exist in peace and security
3. Palestine must have it's own state in peace and security
4. Both sides must recognize that there are millions of people on the opposite side that exist and aren't going anywhere
5. Borders must be established and respected
6. Leaders in Israel and Palestine must not be corrupt.
7. Both sides will have to acknowledge the past grievances but put them behind them. You cannot change the past, both sides have been hurt.

The solution is so obvious but getting there is nigh on impossible.

There isn't always a solution for things.
There's no solution for what happened to Humpty Dumpty.
It's the important part of the story.

@#9 ... That's about as useful and based on reality as your suggestions. ...

Perhaps that is the rationale behind those suggestions in #8...

The current reality is not working and, more than likely, may never work.

So a different reality, using the suggestions as a starting point, may be a better end-goal.

The alternatives to what I propose as the only logical solution are as follows:

1. Continue as is for the foreseeable future.
2. One side genocides the other.
3. A MAJOR conflagration that kills millions resulting in a major reset of the region's priorities-see Europe post WW2

That's it, those are your options.

Truth,

"Isn't it ironic for the religious guy to mock spreading love."

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

1 To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
2 a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.

Bill,

There is usually a bible quote to justify any imaginable evil.

You need to add a few lines:

a time to commit genocide, a time to commit rape
a time to take hostages, a time to steal land
a time to induce famine, a time to use babies as shields
a time to kill people attending a music festival, a time to bomb aid workers

BillJohnson's misconstrued what Sharpton said - horribly and dishonestly, IMHO.

Sharpton said nothing about Democrats. In fact, the entire discussion is about a small segment of the protesters.

The gist of the entire segment, which I watched, was solidly behind what Biden articulated.

I can stand with Israel and its right to protect itself, and I can stand with the Palestinians and their right to protect themselves without supporting abhorrent actions by those who are using each to justify war crimes. I can do that while calling for a cease fire. I am for Palestinians and for a two state solution while being 100% against Hamas and wanting Hamas defeated and destroyed. I am for Israelies to be able to live in peace in their own country, without the threat of destruction from Hamas and other non-state armed actors.

This is not a complex position to hold. It is simple.

#32 | Posted by YAV at 2024-05-03 09:55 PM | Reply

@#32 ... Sharpton said nothing about Democrats ...

From the cited article...

... "The politics of that, what is being robbed by them not doing that, Joe, where you and I agree.

How do the Democrats, how do all of us on that side say January 6th was wrong if you can have the same pictures going on on college campuses, you lose the moral high ground," Sharpton said. ...

[emphasis mine]

But that's not the part of the conversation that caught my attention and raises a concern for me.

Following that, it was said...

... "Good Lord, don't make a parallel to January 6th," co-host Mika Brzezinski said in response. "For some reason that's not allowed." ...

And that is the reason why I do not watch that MSNBC Morning Show.

... "For some reason that's not allowed." ...

Oops.

Mika was ridiculing that position and slamming it.

What Sharpton and Mika said is that Democrats can't be hypocrites or they lose the moral high ground. They didn't say Democrats had lost the moral high ground nor did they say that Democrats were doing that, but rather pointing out that they can't do that, or they'd be hypocrites. It may be taken as a warning, or as a statement of fact that IF a positional change happens, then the result will be that loss.

Last I checked both were Democrats.

This syllogism seems correct as it stands when one does not read additional meaning into what was stated.

Israel has one "black and white" means of resolving the issue.

They're wiping the two-state solution off the map. No more Gaza, no more second state. And a whole new stretch of very valuable water-front property.

They're gonna need a smart, well connected U.S. real estate investment broker for THAT job. One with a couple billion start-up money to spend. Closed bids are expected to start sometime in January, 2025 ~ if all goes as planned.

#35 | Posted by Twinpac at 2024-05-04 04:45 AM | Reply

Israel is committing crimes of historical magnitude. They are not going to stop. They are using the US legal system to their advantage.

History will not be kind to Biden or the official US policies being followed.

Not one Palestinian would endorse any of this, just ask Bill Clinton.

One thing to do is for EVERYONE to stop demonizing opposing positions.

LOL this is so naive as to make me wonder if you're just trolling.

Palestinians were teaching their children to hate Israel and Jews. You'd be hard pressed if not impossible to find this sort of thing anywhere else in the world out side of Islamic schools.

You're creating false equivalency, then whining about how people "just can't get along".

The basic fact is each time "Islamic" agents of change attempt to attack Israel they seem to lose, then claim genocide.

The only solution is for the Democracy to defeat the Theocracy completely and without pause and without question..

Else this is the future ... and so much for womens rights.

Moral high ground would not include supporting a candidate for president who:

Is a documented compulsive liar

An admitted sexual abuser of women.

An adjudicated rapist.

An admitted adulterer.

Someone who was/is close friends with pedophiles.

Someone who is a business fraud.

Someone who has stolen charity money.

Someone who has stolen money from veterans.

Someone whose children have stolen money from kids with cancer.

Someone whose daughter in law defrauding a dog rescue charity.

Someone who cheats on all his wives.
